History and Side Effects of Taxotere
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) originally approved Taxotere in 1996 and eventually approved it for the treatment of breast, lung, stomach, neck and prostate cancers.
The drug is most often used for patients with advanced cases of breast cancer after other chemotherapy treatments failed.
The American Cancer Society includes Taxotere on its list of the most common chemotherapy drugs used to treat breast cancer. In fact, the manufacturer, Sanofi Aventis Pharmaceutical Company, claims that Taxotere is the most prescribed drug in its class.
However, in recent years, several studies have shown that Taxotere can cause alopecia, or permanent hair loss. While chemotherapy can cause hair loss, it is not usually permanent.
A 2006 study by Dr. Scot Sedlacek, from Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, revealed that more than six percent of breast cancer patients treated with Taxotere suffered alopecia.
A study from 2010 published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology reported that Taxotere caused more and more patients to suffer alopecia.
The National Cancer Research Institute came out with another study in 2013 that revealed between 10 and 15 percent of patients who were treated with Taxotere suffered permanent hair loss. Participants in the study were treated with vitamins, psolaren and other drugs but none were effective in regrowing hair.

Taxotere Class Action Lawsuits
Drug manufacturers have a duty to provide adequate warnings about potential side effects of their drugs so that doctors and patients can make educated decisions about what medications to use. If doctors and patients think that a drug is too risky, a safer drug can be prescribed in its place.
When drug manufacturers fail to warn about dangerous side effects, victims may be entitled to compensation for the side effects they have suffered.
If you feel that you were not adequately warned about the risk of permanent hair loss from the drug Taxotere, you might be able to join a Taxotere class action lawsuit to recover fair compensation.
The experienced class action lawyers at The Nye Law Group have seen the devastating side effects of defective drugs, and that is why we work so hard to protect patients’ rights and recover all of the compensation they are owed.
